Files from intra oral scanners (.STL format) can be uploaded into Simodont and assigned to individual students.

Patient specific crown and bridge preparations

With Simodont students can practice crown and bridge preparations for an specific patient prior to treating that patient in the clinic. After an intra-oral scan of a particular patient has been made, that scan can be uploaded into Simodont and converted into a 3D model. A student can now make a preparation for that patient with unlimited practice and repeat.

This way students can increase their confidence and competence prior to treating the actual patient. It will help ensure patient safety and provide confidence to the teacher. Some schools have already made this practice mandatory for students before doing their first clinical preparations.

Real patient’s teeth are often not as perfect as typodonts.
Both crown and bridge preparations can be made.
Over 80 different burs and hand instruments are available, many dedicated for crown preparations.
Students can save snapshots and ‘rewind’ to these points earlier in the preparation, to repeat or focus on a difficult part of the procedure.
Interesting scans can also be added to the 3D model library for future re-use by other students.
Teachers can remotely view students at work.
Teachers and students can together discuss and evaluate the preparation.
