Periodontics

The periodontics procedure in Simodont focuses on the basics of calculus detection, periodontal measurements and calculus removal.

Periodontal measurements

The periodontal measurements can be executed using different probes. Readings can be entered for all 6 aspects of the tooth. On the results page, students can compare their own readings with the official model readings.

Live force feedback can be used to know how much force is applied, learning to not damage the soft tissue. The aim is to use approximately 20 grams of force with the tip of the probe.

The live force feedback and direct comparing of results will help students to review their performance and train their skills.

Calculus detection

For detecting the presence of calculus, several hand instruments can be used. For these cases, only sub-gingival calculus deposits are implemented.

The calculus detection readings can be entered for all 4 tooth surfaces. Each tooth position has its own chart. On the results page, students can compare their own readings with the official model readings.

Manual calculus removal

Hand scalers can be used to remove supra-gingival calculus deposits. Live angulation assistance can be used to support effective hand scaling. The calculus will only be removed when the instrument has the right angle.

The calculus detector button can be used to highlight calculus tissue to guide the student in effectively removing calculus.

Ultrasonic calculus removal

Within the ultrasonic scalingcase, supra gingival calculus deposits can be removed from several teeth positions. To activate the magnetostrictive ultrasonic scaler, the foot pedal must be used.

The calculus detector button can be used to highlight calculus tissue to guide the student in effectively removing calculus.

Removal statistics

For both manual calculus removal and ultrasonic calculus removal, calculus removal statistics can be used to assess the treatment objectively. This is one of the advantages of simulation based training. This will help students to review their performance with direct feedback, and provide the opportunity to train their skills.
