TrueTeethLab is available now!
Generate a Simodont model from a CBCT scan in just a few clicks!
What is it?
The TrueTeethLab is a special tool that converts your CBCT scans directly in to Simodont models in a fast and easy way. The software uses an AI-based algorithm to isolate teeth from a scan, and identifies the different dental tissues (enamel, dentine, pulp). The processed scan is then imported in Simodont for treatment training.
So with TrueTeethLab you can now independently create you own high resolution, high realism Simodont models.
- No editing needed. ‘one click and go’. upload – convert – download.
- Automatic tooth recognition – the tool will automatically recognize and isolate the teeth from the scan.
- Automatic tissue segmentation – the tool will automatically recognize the different dental tissues/ segments within the teeth.
- The current version works for single tooth scans.
- In Q4 ’24 an update will become available that can process partial/full jaw scans.
Benefits
- Experience full anatomy/morphology including the pulp chamber, dentine and enamel.
- Prepare students and instructors for individual patients.
- Increase insight and realism.
- Independently create your own custom tooth library for Simodont.
- Simple and easy ‘one click’ workflow.

What file types are supported in the TTL?
The files supported by the TrueTeethLab are .DICOM /.dcm. This is the common data format for 3d medical imaging. The DICOM files can be either a series of .DICOM files or just one file that contains the stack of slices.
Can I use the TrueTeethLab anywhere?
The TrueTeethLab is an online tool, meaning that you can potentially access it as long as you have an internet connection. We advise you to use a strong and stable internet connection especially when using larger CBCT scan files.
The TrueTeethLab is released in Europe first. The tool will be available globally from January 1st 2025.
How long does it take to create a model?
In general, the upload and conversion process duration depends on the size of the scanned volume. In general the whole process of uploading, converting and downloading one single tooth model should not take more than 5 minutes.
Single tooth = 2-5 minutes
Lower front teeth = < 5 minutes
1 quadrant = approx. 15 minutes
full dentition = approx. 1 hour
What is the minimum required resolution of the scan?
200 micron is minimally needed in order to get a proper model. Ideally the scan has a higher resolution than 200 micron. And there are more factors that play a role in the quality of the scan and the resulting model. A good rule of thumb in this is, when you are clearly able to see and distinct the different segments by the eye, then the tool will be able to convert it in a good quality model. If the segmentation is distorted by for example scatter caused by amalgam fillings, then the tool will not be able to make a proper model. Remember, garbage in garbage out.
What file type is exported?
The TrueTeethLab exports a Simodont specific model format. This file is meant for direct import in the teacher side of the Simodont Courseware.
Which segments are recognized in a scan?
At the moment the TrueTeethLab only recognizes enamel, dentin and the pulp chamber from a scanned tooth.
The next step is to recognize bone tissue from a scan.
For which procedures are the models created with the tool suitable?
Models made with the single tooth workflow are usable for: Dental Anatomy, Caries, Crown and Endo Access Cavity preparation cases.
Models made with the upcoming partial and full jaw workflow are suitable for: Caries, Crown, Bridge, Endo and Implant cases.
What happens with the data I upload?
The TrueTeethLab is only temporarily saving the scan data without any meta data (personal information) to its server to be able to process and convert it to a Simodont model. The moment a session is ended, (intended or because of a network glitch) the data is being cleaned from the server.
Is this tool available around the globe?
The TrueTeethLab will be released in Europe first. The tool will be available globally from January 1st 2025.
Do I need a license for this tool?
Yes.
You can buy different packages, each with an certain amount of credits. The cost for a model depends on the number of teeth present in the resulting model. As a user you have freedom in how you spend your credits by choosing how many teeth you want to have drillable in the resulting model. Also, credits are only deducted at the very last step of the process, when you press the download button. Until then you have many check-in moments to evaluate whether you want ‘purchase’ the model.
For the TrueTeethLab you will also need a user account. At this moment each school receives one user account.
Can I try this tool before I buy a license?
Yes you can! Please contact us if you would like to try out the TrueTeethLab.
Which version of the Simodont Courseware do I need?
The minimal required version of the Simodont Courseware is v4.10.
In order to work with models for the Implantology procedure, you will need at least version v4.18.
